The most loved opener scored an impressive 176 that not only made the African team sweat but also lifted the spirits of all the Indian fans across the world. Opening for India in the longer format was a first for Rohit Sharma where he proved that living upto the expectations is always his priority.
Limited over vice-captain along with Mayank Agarwal established a 317-runs partnership in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. It was only in the 82nd over that South Africa managed a grab their first wicket. Rohit’s exit by Keshav Maharaj meant a sign of relief for the South Africans. The 32-year-old cricketer fell short of one run for his best Test score.
After Rohit’s return to the pavilion, he was greeted by the captain who gave him a pat on the back for his brilliant performance. Rohit finished his innings with 176 runs from 244 balls where he smashed 23 boundaries along with 6 sixes.
India closed the second day with 502 runs with Mayank Agarwal playing an applauding 215-runs inning from 371 balls. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 6 runs, Virat Kohli secured 20 runs, Ajinkya Rahane managed 15, Ravindra Jadeja scored 30 runs, Hanuma Vihari made 10 while Wriddhiman Saha managed 21 runs in 136 over innings for India.
