Indian opener Rohit Sharma who is also known as ‘hitman’ of the Indian team has been successful in winning hearts across the world. Opening for India in Test format was a first for the 32-year-old cricketer in Visakhapatnam where he didn’t let his fans down. His 176-run innings against South Africa earned words of praise from all and one in particular has grabbed a lot of attention.
Former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar seemed highly pleased with the Indian opener. Akhtar revealed on his YouTube handle, how he got to know of Rohit’s potential in 2013.
“I had asked Rohit to add a G, for ‘Great’ before his name – ‘Great Rohit Sharma’ and play in the manner going in with the mindset that he is the best batsman in India,” Akhtar stated in his YouTube video.
Praising his skills and techniques, Akhtar added that when India comes face-to-face with England in the future for the five-match Test series, Rohit may score more than 1000 runs where he will surpass Smith’s highest tally of 774 runs that he achieved in Ashes series.
The shorter format vice-captain has already proven his worth in T20s and ODI, this was a first as an opener in longer format. With his spectacular inning, he may have just sealed his place as an opener in the Test form as well.
