India skipper Virat Kohli has become the first Indian to cross the one million followers mark on Instagram. The 31-year-old cricketer is one of the most followed sportspersons on Instagram becoming the fourth sports figure to reach the mark globally.
Kohli recently surpassed NBA superstar LeBron James (69 million). Portugal football sensation Cristiano Ronaldo has 232 million followers making him the most followed athlete while Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has 161 million followers making him the second most loved sportsperson. Brazilian footballer Neymar is in third place with 140 million followers.
While speaking of the most followed public figures in India then Kohli is the only sportsperson on the list of top-10 celebrities on Instagram. The skipper maintains a constant connection with his fans through social media and is often seen posting pictures and videos of his latest workouts and outings.
Kohli is also one of the highest earners through his sponsored posts on Instagram. According to a report released by “Attain” last month, Kohli earned an estimated amount of 3.6 crores (379,294 pounds) from his sponsored posts during the lockdown period from March-May.
