Sheikh Zayed Stadium witnessed a brilliant game on Wednesday evening as Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by a big margin of 49 runs. MI set a target of 196 runs which the Knight Riders failed to match and succumbed at 146/9.
MI skipper Rohit Sharma smashed 80 runs off 54 balls giving his side a good lead, he was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his marvelous display of skill and techniques. Suryakumar Yadav following the league too played a 47-run innings off 28 balls.
The bowling department played their part in holding back the Knight Riders after James Pattinson, Jasprit Bumrah, Rahul Chahar and Trent Boult grabbed two wickets each while Kieron Pollard managed a single.
Although, having the advantage to batting in the second half. KKR failed to achieve big numbers. Pat Cummins was the highest scorer for the side with 33 runs, Dinesh Karthik scored 30 while the third highest was 24 runs by Nitish Rana. The bowling side too faced their share of hurdles as Shivam Mavi was the only bowler to get two wickets while Andre Russell and Sunil Narine grabbed singles.
Not the opening KKR had in mind but being the first match for the side this season, there are many more games to be played.
