R. Premadasa stadium witnessed a nail biting performance with Deepak Chahar winning the match with a four as India beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets. India pulled-off the win with a close margin clinching the three-match ODI series with two straight wins.
The day’s play began with Sri Lanka winning the toss and opted to bat. Charith Asalanka being the highest scorer for the side scored 65 off 68 balls while Avishka fernando hit a half century to become the second highest scorer. Sri Lanka with a strong performance scored 275/9 giving India a decent target to chase.
On the other hand, India being a better chaser got off to a slow start with two earlier wickets. Ishan Kishan (1) and Prithvi Shaw (13) both failed to replicate their previous performances and headed back to the pavilion with nothing much to their contribution bucket. Suryakumar Yadav (53) and Deepak Chahar’s (69*) dual effort saved the day as India defeated the host by 3 wickets with 5 balls remaining.
The third and final match of the ODI series will be played on Friday, 23 July.
