Australia have dominated world cricket for a long time. Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Brett Lee, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath were the top performers. Australia became the world champions in 2003 and 2007 under his captaincy.
Ricky Ponting was another popular name who took the national team to new heights.
He led Australia to 48 wins in 77 Tests. Praising him for his legacy, Lee shared an interesting incident about the former player.
“When he arrived, no one knew what was coming,” the former pacer can be heard saying in a video shared on his YouTube channel.
“In 1994-95, we were working under the guidance of Rod Marsh. We were told to face 12 balls at 160 kmph off the bowling machine. A guy like me was afraid as it could hit me anywhere,” he added.
“Ponting went to the nets with a cap on. Rod Marsh confronted him as facing raw pace without wearing a helmet was impossible. But Ponting continued to bat and didn’t miss one. Rod Marsh said that this guy would play a lot of cricket for Australia.”
Ponting represented Australia in 168 Tests, 375 ODIs, and 17 T20Is.
