Sunil Gavaskar has supported struggling KL Rahul ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

According to him, the opener is playing in the manner the team management wants him to.

He has failed since the Asia Cup 2022, his form is questioned since he managed just 132 runs in 5 matches at a strike rate of 122. He scored 35-ball 55 in the first T20I against Australia in Mohali but could not contribute in the next two contests in Nagpur and Hyderabad.

“He is doing what the team wants. In the second game, he had to score runs quickly as it was an 8-overs-a-side game. He sacrificed his wicket for the team,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“In the third T20I, the asking rate was more than 9 overs while chasing the total. It is never easy to hit from ball one. He sacrificed his wicket over there as well,” he added.
