Shubman Gill has done well as an opener in one-day internationals. The two likely candidates to get entry are Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul along with captain Rohit Sharma.
The young player is focused on making full use of the opportunities he gets. After scoring a half-century in the first ODI against New Zealand, he accumulated 45 off 42 balls in a rain-impacted second contest.
The right-handed batter has scored 625 runs in 11 matches, including a hundred and 4 fifties. His maiden ODI hundred came in Zimbabwe.
“I am not thinking about the 2023 World Cup. I am trying to score in the ongoing series against New Zealand. I aim to make big contributions,” he said.
Gill will compete in domestic cricket if given a break or not selected for international games. “I will play domestic cricket if given a break or not selected for the national team. I don’t want to sit idle for weeks. I can work on my weaknesses in domestic cricket.”
