The Pakistani legend Javed Miandad always had the highest regards for the Indian’s best bowler Sunil Gavaskar.
He feels that current players should watch video clips of Gavaskar’s batting to tackle the best bowlers. Sunil enjoyed batting against Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, Malcolm Marshall, Imran Khan, Dennis Lillee, Richard Hadlee among others.
“He batted well across the globe despite his short height. His consistency and performances were remarkable,” Miandad said in a video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board. He urged the young batters to learn from the legendary cricketer. “Players these days can learn a lot from watching his videos. He faced the most fearsome bowlers from West Indies, England, Australia, New Zealand and even against Pakistan and yet he was successful,” he added.
Miandad also spoke about his habit of disturbing Gavaskar while the latter was batting.
“I used to field close to him and used to chat a lot to distract him. When I was successful and he lost his wicket, he used to curse me, which I enjoyed.”
