Former India cricketer and current Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is sentenced to one year in jail in the 1988 road rage case.

In February, the country's Apex Court reviewed the case to determine whether the famous opener deserved serious punishment in the 32-year-old case.

The victim's family had filed a review petition, requesting that the court punish Sidhu for causing harm in a more serious category, resulting in a one-year prison sentence. Sidhu had previously asked the Supreme Court not to sentence him to prison.

Despite the fact that Sidhu was found guilty in May 2018, the court spared him jail time and fined him INR 1,000. Gurnam Singh, a Patiala resident, died in a road accident involving the controversial cricketer in 1988. In May 2018, the SC fined him and let him go.

This came after he was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The Supreme Court of India, however, overturned the sentence.
