Player's who did not get a chance to play a single match in World Cup

It's every cricketer's dream to play in the World Cup and get a chance to showcase his/her talent on the big stage. But, for many cricketer's this dream does not get fulfilled. Today, we will be talking about those six cricketers who got a chance to be part of a World Cup squad but never got to play a single match.

Tom Latham

Tom Latham is a New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman who was selected in the 2015 World Cup squad. Tom Latham was included in the team as a middle order batsman. The team performed brilliantly throughout the tournament and did not lose a single match till the final. The result of this was that the Kiwi team did not make any changes in their playing XI and Tom Latham did not get a chance to play a single match.

Sheldon Cottrell

West Indies fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell was selected in the 2015 World Cup squad. But, he was not given a chance to play a single match. In 2019 also, Sheldon Cottrell was given a place in the team. Currently, he is one of the important batsmen of the team.

Axar Patel

Axar Patel was selected as a spinner in the 2015 World Cup squad. But, as the Indian team did not lose a single match till the semi-finals, the then Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni did not consider making any changes to the playing XI. As a result, Axar Patel could not play even a single match during the season.

Irfan Pathan

The 2007 World Cup was nothing special for the Indian team. India won only against Bermuda and faced defeat against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Team India played three matches and could not even make it to the next stage. Irfan Pathan did not get a chance to play a single match in the 2007 World Cup, as the Indian team's journey in the 2007 World Cup ended only after 3 matches.

Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu was part of Team India in the 2015 World Cup played in Australia. He was not given a place in the playing XI in a single match.

Mitchell Johnson

Australia included Mitchell Johnson in the 2007 World Cup squad. But, he remained benched throughout the tournament. Australia had players like Glenn McGrath, Nathan Bracken. Team Australia did not lose a single match in the entire World Cup and there was not much change in its playing XI and for the same reason Mitchell Johnson had to sit out. However, he played an important role in the victory of the Kangaroo team in the 2015 World Cup.
