Indian team coach Ravi Shastri's tenure will come to an end after the T20 World Cup 2021. Ravi Shastri does not wish to extend his tenure further. In such a situation, the big question remains unanswered as to who will be the next head coach. There are three strong contenders in the race to the next head coach of the Indian team.
Virender Sehwag is well known for his explosive batting. Sehwag is a strong contender to become the coach of the Indian team. He has already applied for the position. But the former opening batsman lacks the coaching experience to head a team. Although, Sehwag shares good relations with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, which may increase his chances of getting the job. However, he will get tough competition from two foreign contenders.
Mike Hesson is the former coach of New Zealand, whose record in world cricket has been excellent. Mike Hesson is currently the Director of Cricket Operations of IPL franchise RCB and he is also considered a strong contender to become the head coach of the Indian team.
Tom Moody is the Director of Operations of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. In 2017, Moody had given an interview for coaching position of the Indian team but he lost the race to Ravi Shastri. However, now Tom Moody is considered to be the biggest contender to become the coach of the Indian team.
