IPL 2021: Did Andre Russell intentionally refuse to run out Kyle Jamieson, fans raise questions

The 11th match of IPL 2021 was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. Athough, the Bangalore team defeated Kolkata by 38 runs but, there was an incident that took everyone by surprised. Having leaked plenty of runs, Russell surprisingly decided to leave the only chance that came his way to send an opponent batsman back when he refused to run out RCB’s Kyle Jamieson. Andre Russell intentionally gave up the opportunity to him run out during his bowling. Now, questions have started to rise on this on social media.

In fact, when Russell was bowling in the final over of RCB’s innings, Bangalore batsman AB de Villiers was on strike and Kyle Jamieson was standing on the non-strike end. On the fifth ball of the last over, de Villiers played a shot towards Andre Russell. Russell caught the ball. Jamieson, standing at the non-strike end, had run 11 yards and had no time to return to the crease.

Russell was supposed to hit the ball at the stumps, but chose otherwise and did not run out Jamieson. After the incident, questions are being raised on Russell decision as to why he missed the opportunity.

AB de Villiers, who performed brilliantly for his side, was named the ‘Man of the Match’. RCB has so far won all the three matches played so far this season and remains on the top of the points table.
