IPL 2021: Quinton de Kock saves the day, hits an unbeaten 70

Mumbai Indians played their first match in Delhi against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday. Despite losing Rohit Sharma (14) and Suryakumar Yadav (16) early into the innings, opening batsman Quinton de Kock helped the side chase 172-run target with a spectacular 7-wicket win.

Mumbai who won the toss, opted to bowl first. Rajasthan opened with a brilliant start with Jos Butler smashing 41 off 23 balls, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 32 off 20 balls while captain Sanju Samson played an impressive 42-run knock of 27 balls followed by Shivam Dube who added 35 runs to the tally. The side built a strong 171-run total at the loss of four wickets, however, despite having a solid batting performance the side failed to defeat Mumbai.

Mumbai’s opener de Kock helped the side build a strong foundation to pursue the 172 target with ease as he played an innings of 70 runs off 50 balls for which he was named the ‘Player of the Match’. Krunal Pandya also contributed 39 runs to chase the total well with in time. MI scored 172/3 in 18.3 overs.
