Fans can hardly wait for the next edition of Indian Premier League. The new season is set to introduce two new teams in the mega tournament. The new season will also see a new captain leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore as current captain Virat Kohli recently announced that he will be stepping down from the capataincy of the team after the conclusion of ongoing IPL season.
Before the mega auction, RCB will have to do a lot brainstorming for the future captain. There is a lot of speculation about who will become the next captain after Virat. Many names have emerged in the discussions. AB de Villiers' name is running at the top. But de Villiers is at the final stage of his career. Hence, making him the captain would not be the right decision.
Former Indian bowler and former RCB bowler Ashish Nehra contributed to the suggestion box as to who should be the captain of RCB. Ashish Nehra said that if the franchise wants a long-term solution, then Devdutt Paddikal is the right choice. “Devdutt Padikkal has the ability to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore team effectively. If the team is looking for a player as the captain for a long time, then they will have to hand over the captaincy to Padikkal.”
Paddikal is only 21 years of age and made his IPL debut in 2020 and has been consistent with the bat for RCB. The opening batter has so far amassed 822 runs from 26 games in the IPL for the Men in Red.
Meanwhile, RCB will lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the eliminator of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Monday.
