Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir is unhappy with the fact that Ambati Rayudu did not get a place in the World Cup squad. Gambhir had been a part of the World Cup team in 2011. India had won the World Cup that year.
Gambhir stated that it is very unfortunate that Rayudu could not make it to the Indian team for the World Cup. Rayudu is in the same situation where he had been in 2007 World Cup. Rayudu is 33 years of age, averaging 47 plus in world cricket and going to miss out of the World Cup, this can be very disheartening for him, Gambhir said.
Gambhir further added that the decision of excluding Rishabh Pant was the right one as he had been given many opportunities but he failed to take advantage of the same. Not including Rishabh Pant is no topic of discussion, but excluding Rayudu is questionable as he is a player with great potential.
A few months back Captain Virat Kohli had stated that Ambati Rayudu is the first choice for No. 4 position in the World Cup team. Rayudu’s performance in the last series against Australia had been a disappointment, that perhaps has been the reason that led to his exclusion from the World Cup squad.
