India started their World Cup campaign on a high note by winning their first match against South Africa on 5 June. During their second encounter against Australia although India registered their second win but suffered a huge loss as their opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan sustained a thumb fracture that bought his World Cup campaign to an immediate end.
Despite of his injury the player remained with the team in hopes of early recovery but recent reports suggested that his recovery would take more than the expected time shattering his hopes of further playing in the World Cup.
Following the management’s decision of ruling out Dhawan’s chance of playing further in the prestigious tournament, he took to Twitter to post an emotional message to his fans and team thanking and informing them about his campaign coming to an end.
To his surprise, PM Narendra Modi reverted back to Dhawan’s post and wrote, “Dear @SDhawan25, no doubt the pitch will miss you but I hope you recover at the earliest so that you can once again be back on the field and contribute to more wins for the nation.”
Rishabh Pant will be replacing Shikhar Dhawan in the ICC World Cup 2019.
