The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have released a statement on Tuesday, stating that 28-year-old KL Rahul has sprained his left wrist during a practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday. Although, Rahul was not part of the playing XI for the first two Tests but the possibilities of him being part of the remaining two matches have come to a nil after the injury.

“KL Rahul sprained his left wrist while batting in the nets at the MCG during Team India’s practice session on Saturday. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Rahul will now return to India to begin his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

“He will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury.” confirms the statement.

In the absence of its keys players, India finds itself in a fix spot as skipper Virat Kohli returned to India to be with wife Anushka Sharma who is expecting the couples first child. Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav have also been ruled out of the series due to injury. And, the sword of restrict COVID-19 protocols has already lime lighted some of the key players of India.

Despite of India’s defeat, Rahul played a crucial role in all the three-match ODI series. He scored 93 runs at an average of 31 with a high score of 76.

India won the T20I series by 2-1, with Rahul scoring a total of 81 runs in the three matches series.
