
The Indian team is to take on England in the first-match of the four-match Test series on 5 February. International cricket will return to India after almost a year due to the outburst of novel coronavirus but engulfed the entire world. Looking at the stats, the first Test between India and England was played in 1943. And, since then the two teams have played 9 matches in Chennai with India winning 5 matches and England won thrice with one draw. England has also never won the first Test of the series on this venue.
Looking at India-England last series in Chennai played in 2016, India defeated England 4-0. The 5th Test of the five-match series in Chennai played between Dec 16 – Dec 20 2016, India won by 75 runs
With ICC World Test Championship taking its final course, and both the teams are eyeing a place in the finals. Presently, India is the top position with 430 points while New Zealand is in the second place with 420. Australia is in the third place with 332 points followed by England with 412. New Zealand made the finals of the World Test Championship after Australia-South Africa Test series was postponed due to the increasing Covid-19 situation in South Africa ending all hopes of Australia to make the final. After India-England Test series, either of the two teams will look to seal a place against the Kiwis.
