Indian head coach Ravi Shastri on Wednesday stated that he prefered a 16- member squad for the upcoming World Cup for India. He gave a ray of hope to players who did not make it to the team. He said that if there are only 15 to choose, there will be someone who will miss out.

On Monday, BCCI had announced the 15- members Team India for the ICC World Cup 2019 that is to start on 30 May in England. The omissions of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and veteran Ambati Rayudu triggered a debate on the choices of the selectors. Shastri said that he likes to stay away from the Selection matters but gives his input to the captain.

Shastri requested the players who have missed out on the team to not lose heart as there could be injuries so we never know when these players may be called up.

When asked about the strong contender for the World Cup title, Shastri named England to be in its best form as the team has been consistent in the last two years.
