After a brilliant 8-wicket win over Australia in the second Test match in Melbourne, India received a big blow as five Indian players – Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw and Navdeep Saini have been placed under isolation while an investigation has been launched by the BCCI and Cricket Australia into the matter of possible breach of COVID-19 bio-securty protocol.

The incident occured after a fan posted a video of the players who can be seen sitting in a restaurant while the fan also claimed to have hugged Pant. Although, the video has been retracted but the claim that he had hugged a player has raised questions on the bio-bubble protocol.

A source close to BCCI has shunned the reports and suggested that Australian media is deliberately running such reports. He further stated that the touring party is well aware of the restrict COVID-19 protocols.

“No, there has been no breach in bio-security protocols. Everyone associated with the Indian team is well aware of the protocols. We can only term it as a malicious spin by a section of Australian media and this has started after their humiliating defeat,” PTI had quoted a BCCI official.
