Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly once again communicated his disappointment in the fact that Rishabh Pant is not included in the 15-members Team India squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. On 15 April, BCCI’s Selection panel had announced the team where Dinesh Karthik had been chosen over Rishabh Pant as the wicketkeeper for Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s backup. Although, the Karthik would only get to play if Dhoni suffers an injury or he is unable to play for any other reason.
Since the announcement of the 15-member squad, there had been alot of debate regarding Pants’ exclusion. Where, many professionals from the cricket world stated that Pant not making the team is a big mistake. Sourav Ganguly being one of them.
Rishabh Pants’ performance in the Indian Premier League 2019 had been remarkable where many times he was seen finishing off the game for his team. He scored 488 runs from 16 matches played in the league with an average of 37.53 and strike rate of 162.66.
MSK Prasad stated that the reason behind Pants’ exclusion was his lack of experience, however, Pants’ performance in the IPL T20 league states otherwise.
