Just days away from Team India’s tour to Australia, the cricket board has found itself in a tough place as it has been learnt that the leg spinner is undergoing rehab for a shoulder injury that he picked up during the IPL. The 29-year-old has a labrum tear in his shoulder that does not affect his bowling but troubles his throwing. It’s an old injury that was irked during the IPL season.

According to sources, “Chakravarthy has a labrum tear on his right shoulder. It generally requires a surgery. He is struggling to throw due to his injury. He did not opt for a surgery because he wanted to play the IPL. He is undergoing rehab currently,”

“The selectors weren’t informed about the injury. Now it’s up to the selectors to pick Varun for the Australian tour or not. It will be selectors call,” a BCCI official said.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) failed to inform the selectors, Team India or the National Cricket Academy (NCA) during the IPL. The report has been sent after the team’s exit from the tournament.

The development has come after selectors choose not to include vice-captain Rohit Sharma for the Australian tour despite the fact that he turned up to see Mumbai Indians through the entire IPL season. However, BCCI maintains its stance as they do not wish to risk Rohit inclusion until he gets a green signal from the BCCI’s medical team.
