The Selection Committee announced the Team India squad last month where Vijay Shankar was given preference over Ambati Rayudu, hence he made it to the squad and the latter didn’t. Shankar had earned the selectors’ trust in him for the World Cup, where Chief Selector MSK Prasad stated that Shankar provided a three-dimensional approach to the game which earned him an upper-edge over Rayudu.
However, on not getting selected in the team, Rayudu stirred up a controversy when he posted a comment on social media saying, “Just ordered a new set of 3D glasses to watch the World Cup.”
In an interview with Gaurav Kapur, Vijay Shankar finally responded to Rayudu’s tweet where he said, “I know for a fact how a Cricketer would feel if they are not picked.” Shankar acknowledged the disappointment Rayudu had felt on not being selected in the squad and suggested that anyone would feel the same in that situation.
Further, Shankar told ICC, “I will work hard on all the aspects of my game, whenever the opportunity comes I will always try my best for the team. The last few years, from travelling, you see a lot of supporters all over the world, and they’re definitely going to be there (in England), 50/50 sometimes. It’s going to be really nice to experience that and I’m looking forward to that experience. Even if it is just one match that I win for the team, I’ll be very happy about that.”
Recently Shankar had suffered an injury on his right forearm for which he had under gone a scan where the doubts of any kind of fracture was nullified.
