Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has always been the first choice for Team India, however, it is mandatory to have a back up for the wicket-keeper in case he suffers an injury. BCCI’s selection panel announced the 15-member squad for the Indian team for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, where they chose Dinesh Karthik over Rishabh Pant.
Rishabh Pant’s performance in the Indian Premier League 2019 had been remarkable where many had called him a great finisher. However, the disappointment of him not being selected in the World Cup squad was disapproved by many.
Indian team captain Virat Kohli stated that 33 year old Dinesh Karthik’s experience and the ability to handle pressure has been the key factors for him getting selected in the World Cup squad over Pant. However, it has also been stated that the team can change players till 23 May.
