While speaking to IANS, former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag revealed the true reason for Team India’s consistent performer.
The cricketer feels that India’s bowling side led by the powerful bowler Jasprit Bumrah has really uplifted India’s performance in the recent times. Indian bowling attack restricted West Indies to 100 on the last day of the first Test match after setting a target of 419. Giving the credit to the bowlers for a spectacular show.
“It is not that we didn’t have quality bowlers before. In my time we had the likes of Javagal Srinath, Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan and its great to see the way Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and the likes of Umesh Yadav- he has been around for a long time- have performed. It’s good to see the way these bowlers bowling and ensures we are a formidable line-up.” Sehwag said.
Test cricket holds a special place for Sehwag and a performance like that is always good for the game. Speaking for the World Test Championship that started with Ashes 2019, Sehwag said, “The World Test Championship has come at the right time. When there are such exciting matches, like the Ashes, India-West Indies Test series, it will be great to have the Test Championships. This will be great for the playing nations and the format, with exciting games and the competition it offers.”
