Cricket star Yuvraj Singh who played a crucial role in India’s win during 2011 World Cup, came forward in support of Ambati Rayudu. Yuvraj expressed his disappointment over the matter of Ambati Rayudu during ICC World Cup.
Rayudu had been amongst the top contenders for No. 4 position in the squad till earlier this year, however, during the time of selection he was left out of the squad.
Yuvraj Singh said, “It was disappointing to know what they did with Rayudu. He was in the contention for the World Cup. He got runs in New Zealand but after three or four bad innings, he got dropped.”
Earlier this year, captain Virat Kohli cleared the air for his favourite at No. 4 position in the squad, however after Rayudu’s weak performance against Australia and in the India Premier League, he was over-looked by the Selection Panel from the 15-members Team India squad.
Although, it was stated that Rayudu would be kept as a reserve for the World Cup in case of any injuries during the mega tournament but when Shikhar Dhawan suffered a thumb injury and Vijay Shankar sustained a toe injury, Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal were considered instead.
After being over-looked twice, Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 3 July.
Team India suffered 18-run defeat against New Zealand in the Semi-Finals. The team had shown tremendous skills and capabilities but destiny had a different plan.
Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India were knocked out of the World Cup 2019 following an 18-run loss to New Zealand in the semi-final in Manchester.
